Space marines vs Necrons BR fluff!

Inlägg av SysterNiklas »

Jag och en god vän till mig började spelade för 2 år sen. Han spelade då tyranids och jag spelade som nu Space marines, vi båda älskar fluff så jag gjorde ett första försök till ett narrativ till vår match igår.

... He sat down with a sigh. His armour wore heavy on him. Not the armour itself ofcourse. He was a adeptus astartes, a ultramarine. No, not the armour but what it symbolized. Honour, tradition, strategems and the weight of leadership. He had recently been promoted chaptermaster and he had not yet settled in to his new quarters. This area was much larger, it had panoramic windows that would allow one to take in the darkness of the galaxy, but also its grandeur and the treasures amongst the stars.
The walls in this square room were packed with books. Books filled with strategies, books that describred glorious victorius and defeats to which you were to learn from. Ultramarine symbols and insignas everywhere, as if he ever were to forget what the symbol looked like.
Chaptermaster Achilon had risen among the ranks fast, not only because of his extraordinary skill as a marine but primarily because the fast pace that chaptermasters had been slain in the Straeos system.
This ultramarine strikeforce arrived at Straeos system 2 years ago to investigate a rumor of a tyranid invasion, a simple matter. They had all thought it would be over in a couple of weeks as usual. But this system was far from usual. The Tyranid invasion were indeed halted and stopped, but not by the hands of the Ultramarines.
The warcouncil of Macragge claimed the victory at Straeos V as one of the most important in current history. The odds of an overwhelming tyranidinvasion had been stopped with a simple scoutparty, a battlebarge without reinforcements. It was with this victory Achilon had been promoted to Chaptermaster but he thought for himself
- If they only knew….
It was not the might of the Ultramarines, it was not their firepower or their strategies that had stopped the tyranids. With the arrival of the tyranids a new slumbering foe had been awakened.
Necrons. It was this foe that had pushed the tyranids back. The populace in the Straeos system were cheering at the sudden disapperence of tyranidinfestation but the Ultramarines knew better. With the tyranid slain a new greater challenge waited ahead of them.
Tyranids were easy to understand, they are all about instinct, they see every planet as a feast and they indeed indulge in everything they come across. Nercons on the other hand have a purpose, an agenda. They intend to kill all life for the sake that they are living, they are cunning and strategic and they will test the limits of the Ultramarines.
Achilon had sent message to Macragge and asked for reinforcements to handle the Necrons. The order in turn were to withdraw, to leave the battle zone, to leave the Straeos system and let the Astra Militarium fend for themselves.

Suddenly there were a hail on the intercom:
- Chaptermaster, brother do you have a moment?
- Always Heraklion, whats on your mind?
The dark static voice of the dreadnought boomed through the intercom. One could understand Venerable Heraklions might by the weight of his voice. He had experience of combat far beyond any of the marines onboard the battlebarge but now he spoke to Achilon as friend and mentor, not as military council.
- I can see the men are getting anxious of leaving Straeos, it is simply not the right thing to do
- I concur brother but orders are given from the Warcouncil

- Are they here brother? Have they seen the carnage?
Achilon sat in his chambers, it was dark with only the light from the stars shining upon his ultramarineblue armour. To go against the orders from the Warcouncil was unheard of, but Heraklion was right, the Astra Miliatrium wouldn’t stand a chance without the help of the Ultramarines.
- Achilon, we awoke the necrons with our war with the Tyranids, it is our responsibility to put them back to sleep, but this time for good!
Achilon could hear Heraklons assaultcannon rotate and the twists and turns of the pistons of the dreadnought, apparently there were something more behind this overwhelming will to go head to head with the necrons but now was not the time to figure it out.
- You are right Heraklion, we will not leave Straeos until we have completed what we set out to do, to ensure the safety of the citizens and by the Emperors will we will do it! It doesn’t matter if our enemy fights with fangs, claws and venom or gauss guns. We will meet them head on!

- Heraklion, ready yourself and I will contact the armoury and my council, we shall plan for landfall on Straeos VI.

- Young Achilon, we, the ultramarines, will head your call, but be wary brother the Necrons are no easy foe. I have fought them before and they have an uncanny ability to simply not die. We must tread carefull or this will indeed be the last time you deny the will of the Warcouncil.

- I know brother, their weapons design are beyond that of even the High Priests of the red planet. I need some time to consult the Codex, you will hear from me soon. Emperor protects.
Achilon knew that the moment he will give the order, brothers will be lost. Fighting an enemy such as the necrons without casualties is not possible. This burden weighed him down, he had the support of his men and his most trusted friend but it was he had to make the call, it was he who had to defy the Warcouncil of Macragge and it was he that must carry the consequences of his actions. He kept this in mind as he summoned his trusted advisors to the Strategum chambers.
The strategum was an octangual room in one of the battlebarges spires. If it weren’t for the glassroof it would more likely look like a underground bunker. In center of the room was a massive marbletable with golddecorations of giant proportions suited for astartes. The walls were covered in banners and symbols. There was no question about it, this was a Ultramarine war-room. Everyone in Achilons honorguard were there, the apothecaries, the techmarines, the captains of the marine squads, everyone sat around the table except for Heraklion that made his presence known even though he stood in the back.
Achilon entered the room without his laurels and medals. He entered the room as a warrior, not a decorated strategist. He wore his newly finished terminatorarmour and his steps were heavy but determined. This was not going to be a debate, this was not a forum for one to speak its mind. This is war.
- Brothers! Straeos VI need our help. We have awoken the Necrons and we will deal with them as the Codex demands.
- The necrons has sent a scoutparty to the northern agricultural landmass in an attempt to approach the Hivecity.
- This will not stand. We will intercept their scoutparty and we will destroy it.
- Techmarine! Ready the devastators, ready the Whirlwinds, we will make planetfall within the hour.
- We will send the Necron High lords a massage with the destruction of this scoutpary, a message so clear it cannot be twisted, corrupted or misinterpreted, WE ARE THE ULTRAMARINES AND WE KNOW NO FEAR!
Achilon walked out of the room, he now knew that there was no turning back. He had the full support of his Strikeforce. The might of the Ultramarines were his to command. The administrate at Macragge would hear of this in one way or the other. He would either fail as other chaptermasters had before him in the Straeos system or he would emerge victorious and rightfully claim the title Chaptermaster of the Ultramarines.
As he walked down the cold and long corridors of the battlebarge Achilon contacted Master of the scouts to ask what they have seen and what they could report back.
- Brother Priscus give me an update on the lay of the land
- Chaptermaster, my scouts reports that the Necron Overlord Anubech himself is leading this scoutparty only accompanied with 20 necron warriors and a Ghostark.
- Only 20 warriors and a floating tub as protection for a overlord, you are sure?
- We are sir, they are heading to the Hive cities suburbs from the north
- Those suburbs are undefended, the Astra Militarium are busy putting up defences for the Hive city itself. Thank you brother, you can tell your scouts to fall back. We will arrive within the hour.
Achilon kept going toward the armoury, he would have no need for his terminatorarmour in this battle to come. Agility and speed would kill the slow Necrons not blunt force. As he approached this gallery of weaponry he kept thinking about what Brother Priscus had told him, it was more than just unlikely that an Overlord would emerge from his slumber with only 20 warriors and a transport to protect him. When Achilon arrived at the armoury many of his marines were already in their powerarmour collecting extra clips for their boltguns and some meltabombs. They were in a good mood, excited to put an end to the necron threat.
Achilon looked at his marines and reconsidered his first plan to attack the necrons. He would have no use for the Whirlwind tanks, this was no siege, he would have no use for a barrage. He changed the channel on his intercom to the ships local communication system.
- Brothers! This is Chaptermaster Achilon, I need the following at flightdeck armed and ready within 30 minutes. Tactical squad Epsilon and Theta get ready and bring heavy bolters. Devastatorsquad Kappa bring heavy bolters and lascannons. Centurion devastator Omega bring gravcannons. Vindicator battletank V load up and prepare for battle. Emperor protects!
Achlion switched of his intercom and approached Varius master of the armoury.
- Wake Brother Faustus from his hibernation, his skills are needed.
- Your will be done Commander.

20 warriors and a transport as escort for an Overlord. This simply cant be. Achilon walked toward the flightdeck and thought about the report that had been given. It puzzled him. He had full confidence in what Priscus scouts had observed and the Ultramarines could use a simple win. Overkill was the strategy for today. Achilon would make sure that the Ultramarines arrived with more than enough firepower to ensure the death of this overlord and stop his attacks on Straeos VI citizens.
As ordered his marines stood ready at flightdeck when the giant adamantium doors opened up with a hiss. As he entered the room the men made the sign of the Aquila did not let their eyes leave the chaptermaster. The flight deck was enormous. Thunderhawks were parked side by side for kilometers. It was filled with servitors buzzing around aiding with what they could in the preparations for planetfall. One side of the room was an open to the cold dark space, and if it weren’t for the shields and the artificial gravity, all of the equipment, servitors and marines would have been sucked out in the vacuum.
The marines were excited, they had been in this system for over 2 years now and fighting in everything from small skirmishes to big earthshaking battles with assistance of landraiders and stormravens. As they looked through the spaceport they could see the green and blue planet of Straeos VI, a defenseless agricultural planet under siege of necrons.
This could be the day they finally would leave this system. All they needed was one more win.

Many was hoping for a speech from their Chaptermaster but instead he looked everyone in their eyes and nodded, acknowledging them on a deeper level. No words could motivate them more than leaving this system for a new battleground, no words could bring back all the brothers that had fallen, words themselves would not motivate the Ultramarines today, only actions. He knew many of them would not survive this day and that was his burden to carry.
Brother Faustus was awake and Achilon approached him with the honor and respect he deserved. Any brother put in the walking sarcophagus of a dreadnought is worthy of every man’s respect, and rightfully so. Only the most skilled warriors earned a second chance to serve the Emperor when they were mortally wounded on the field of battle.

They were prepared for battle but Achilon knew deep down that something was amiss. As the men were strapping themselves to the antigravseats in the thunderbirds a adamantium door opened up. Achilon looked over his shoulder and saw his honorguard approaching. Chapterchampion Felix, Laelius, Marius, Otho and Thracius. They wore their artificer armor with pride. Their armour were filled with golddetails, Ultramarine insignas, inscriptions, imperial eagles. One could easily see the difference in these five men compared to ordinary spacemarines. There were really no such thing as a ordinary spacemarine, there was nothing ordinary about them. They were walking demigods but compared to these five men they had a lot to learn and far from their experience in battle.

Achilon told them about how he felt about this mission and that a bargain had been struck with the Warcouncil on Macragge. No more chaptermasters were to be slain in the Straeos system. He had been ordered to teleport back up to his battlebarge if he were in grave danger. This would never be an official explanation but it would give him the chance to atone for this decision to go against their will. If he were to succeed it was their plan to kill the overlord before more of the necrons awoke. If he failed he was to return to Macragge with haste and await judgement. It would not be known that a chaptermaster went against their will. This would likely attract the likes of grey knights or the inquisition.
Thunderbirds carried the men down to the surface with posthuman efficiency. This was not an active combatzone, no countermeasures were to fired, no evasive maneuvers. Everyone got the designated landingzone in one piece and got entrenched in position to finally kill the necron overlord and his bodyguards. The amount of firepower they brought would be enough to shock and awe their foe. This wouldn’t be a battle, this would be a slaughter. Rightfully so.
And they waited, and waited. All they could see was the old industries that had been laid to waste. The ground was green with grass but the buildings were only ruins. Achilon ordered the men to stay put and wait for the necron scoutparty he knew they were slow. Pictfeed from the battlebarge went live and Achilon didn’t believe what he saw. In an instant he was hailed from different intercomchannels.

All containing the same message.
- They are here! Orders sir?
The scouts information was wrong. The Overlord was escorted with 30 warriors, a Ghostarc, 5 immortals, 6 wraiths, 6 units of scarabs, 3 tombblades and a canoptek spyder. Achilon looked at the force approaching him and thought
- How could they have been so wrong? Necron technology?
All units were ordered to fire. The Vindicator missed the immortals that took cover in a ruin but the centurions were able to kill 4 of them. The devastator squad fired upon the elusive wraiths on the western flank but all shots missed. Brother Faustus fired his mighty autocannon on the wraiths and were accompanied by tactical squad epsilon but with the same disappointing result. They wraiths appeared like ghosts. Achilon gave the order for orbital bombardment from the battlebare which struck down on the 6 wraiths but none were killed, not even a scratch. Achilon and his honourguard ran for cover towards the remains of a building.

Now they attacked. The wraiths made short work of tactical squad epsilon, with only their sergeant and four marines surviving the onslaught so they did a tactical retreat. The massive unit of necron warriors and their ghostarc fired upon Achilon and his honorguard. They had to shield their eyes as the gauss fired lit up their line of sight. With a smile on his face he noticed he was still alive, and all of his honorguard as well (40 skott inga wounds). His smile turned to a roar when he charged the scarabs that were coming underneath the feet of the warriors. Something had to die for this and they were first in line.

Once again it was the ultramarines turn to fire. Tactical squad Theta ran from cover for a better line of sight to kill the remaining immortal with no success. The vindicator fired but as the necron crumbled of the explosion it suddenly re-animated and stood on its limbs. Brother Faustus fired once again at the wraiths with his autocannon but missed. He had no more patience for this so he charged into the them. When the sergeant of tactical squad epsilon saw the furious charge of Brother Faustus he looked at his remaining warriors and screamed “FOR MACRAGGE!” and they charged as well.
Achilon were busy killin scarabs when he heard the name of their sacred homeplanet. He looked to his left and saw that Brother Faustus charge had been dismantled by the Wraiths and that he no longer could use any of his weapons, and of Tactical squad Epsilon there were not much that could be said. A pink mist surrounded the fight.

The scarabs charged and soon the necron warriors joined the fight. The honorguard with Felix in the thickest of the battle kept killing the necron warriors when suddenly Achilons intercom was interrupted and a new cold static voice blocked out all others.
- Face me, human. I am Anubech and this is my world. You and all the other living will die.
The Overlord approached him and tried to strike but Achilon was quicker, more agile, more aggressive. He jabbed and he thrusted with his relicblade but the sword went right through the overlord as if he were a ghost or leaved this plane of existence for a short while. Achilon dodged and avoided the Overlords warscythe but it required his complete concentration.

Suddenly there was a great explosion to Achilons right, he saw the vindicator go up in flames. The ghostarc had doubled back behind the remains of big industrial complex and fired upon the battletank with their gauss weaponry. He could just give it a seconds thought, Anubech was skilled with the use of warscythes. A second was all it took, he felt an immense pain and warmth in his right leg as he noticed that the he had been wounded and the scythe had pierced his armor. He looked at his leg and looked back to those green orbs in the overlords skull that would have been eyes in a man. He gathered his strenghth and made a quick twist and struck the overlords right arm holding the warscythe.

The agile tombblades made their presence known when they took cover on the roof of an old industrial building and fired upon the devastator squad, two more men lost their lives. Achilon gave a quick glance at the devastator sergeant and cursed the scout Priscus and his false information. In turn the centurion devastorsquad fired upon the tombblades and they simply vanished in a cloud of debris and fire.
The honorguard did what they were supposed to, they protected Achilon with the best defense available, offense. Maurius was struck down when he tried to save Felix from one of the warriors attacks. The remaining unit were enraged with the loss of Maurius and killed necron warriors without pause, they were killed and now they stayed dead. The necronwarriors started to back and run away and so did their overlord. Achilon and his honorguard were on their way to follow them when a group of scarabs got in their way.

The wraiths killed the dismantled Brother Faustus and ran for the devastator squad. They got the attention of the Centurions that fired but their weaponry was of no use against the ghostlike wraiths. The wraiths were a foe like no other, they seemed impossible to kill, agile, stealthy and fast. There was nothing in this small ultramarine detachment that could serve as a countermeasure an equalizer, save for the chaptermaster and his honorguard.
Finally the scarabs were dead. Achilon and his honorguard charged the remaining necronwarriors and the overlord. With sweeping strikes and use of feints he struck the overlord several times. The overlord was to slow with his right arm holding the war scythe wounded, Achilon got the better of him and finally after a blur of thrusts the overlord fell. His honorguard attacked the remaining necron warriors but Otho and Thracius fell.

The wraiths killed the devastator unit without hindrance and charged the centurions. These centurions were not built for closecombat. This proved to be true as they were slain within seconds of the wraiths arrival. The wraiths whips made short work of the bulky build of the centurion armor. They were more of stationary weapon platforms than effective fighters in close combat.

Achilon, Felix and Laelius were now alone on the battlefield. They had killed their enemy’s commander but were outnumbered and outgunned. They charged the wraiths that were a mere 50 meters behind them and in their charge they saw the earth shake and flashes of light and they knew that they were about to be teleported back to the battlebarge. Laelius made an successful attempt at striking down one of the wraiths, but it cost him his life. The next thing Achilon knew he stood with Felix on the teleportation deck upon his battlebarge, midcharge screaming “For the emperor!”

The necrons had won. The battle raged for a few minutes but felt like hours. Achilon opened a secure channel on the intercom to the battlebarges captain.
- Captain, find me Priscus, NOW! And bring him to the medicae. I need a apothec….
After that all went dark.
He had been fighting on pure adrenaline, making sure his twin hearts wore working to the fullest. Once he had been out of combat for mere seconds upon the battlebarges teleportationdeck he simply fell to the floor and had been rushed to the medicae for assistance. Achilon woke up in a tank with aminofluids. The wound on his leg were worse than he first thought but the staff of the ships medicae had spared no expense in saving his leg. Once he had gotten his bearings about his location and his status he remembered why he was there, the loss of the lives, Brother Faustus, Otho, Marius, Lealius all had fallen. The damn necrons.
- Servitor! How long have I been in this statistank?
- Two standard Terran sun cycles lord.
- Call the apothecary and get me out of this tank now!
He was not yet fully healed but there was too much to do. He had to show his leadership skills at his own warroom, he had to make contact with the warcouncil on Macragge and he had to inform the Lord Governor Jiloan the second that Necron overlord had fallen but their forces were still lurking in the northern suburbs.

To be continued.
